Compensation For Water Damage Claims
Last updated on March 14, 2024
If you’ve ever read your home insurance policy, you’ve probably noticed that most of the verbiage is little more than a list of the things that are not covered by the policy. Water damage is one of the most common problems for homeowners and one of the most commonly denied claims. Water damage claims always seem to fall into one of the many exceptions in the home insurance policies.
At The McMillan Law Firm, APC, I can help you. I take an aggressive approach to helping clients get full and fair compensation for their claims. When the insurance company denies or underpays your claim, I will fight back to level the playing field. My law firm is located in La Mesa, and I serve clients throughout the surrounding California areas.
Most of the time, water damage is only covered if you have specific insurance for water damage or flooding, or if there is a specific covered event like a burst pipe. In most cases, seepage and general flooding will not be covered under a generic homeowner’s policy.
Getting A Second Opinion
Most people just accept the insurance agent’s denial of the claim and pay for damage repair out of pocket. Of course, the insurance company agent is going to tell you that they won’t payout for your water damage claim. Of course, they will tell you your water damage falls into some kind of exception and that the damage isn’t covered. Or perhaps they will approve your claim and then vastly underpay you for what the damage really costs to repair. The insurance company does not want to pay you. Every dollar they pay out on claims is one less dollar of profit.
You need to get a second opinion. Although a lot of these policies do have valid exceptions for water damages, each policy is unique. At The McMillan Law Firm, APC, I can look over your claim and discuss your situation with you to see if there’s any way we can get you the compensation you need. If there is any way, I can find it.
